Most students think,”Oh, it’s just another day off.” or,”Another day for the end of the year.” But is Martin Luther King day any of these thoughts or are the student right? Should stay in school to honor him and learn about him or stay out of school?
Martin Luther King
is mostly known for the speech and quote above, but he is much, much more. He was a main leader for the civil rights movement. He was saddly assassinated on April 4th, 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee
. For his massive role in American history Martin Luther King got his own holiday known as Martin Luther King Day. He recieved the Presidential Medal of Freedom
award given by President Jimmy Carter. Martin also got the Congressional Gold Medal in 2004 for his help in setting our country right.
Now back to the big question. Should there be school on Martin Luther King Day? I think that there shouldn’t be school because it is a national holiday. And like all holidays, we should be awqay from school and be doing our own thing to celebrate him.
